History of the Madden Curse

Madden 09 – Brett FavreMadden 09

EA Sports tried to avoid the Madden Curse when they selected Brett Favre for the cover after his first retirement. When he un-retired and was traded to the Jets, EA scrambled for Photoshop and released an updated version you could print out to replace the cover of Favre in a Packers uniform.

After jumping out to an 8-3 start, Brett Favre tried to limp his way to the finish line with what was later diagnosed as a torn biceps tendon. The Jets finished with a 9-7 record and missed the playoffs when Favre no longer had that signature zip to put on the ball caused by the arm injury, finishing with only 2 TD passes & 9 INTs in the final 5 games.

Madden 10 – Troy Polamalu & Larry FitzgeraldMadden10-4

EA Sports tried once again to trick the Madden Curse by switching it up and putting two players on the cover for the first time, but, like the Final Destination that the Madden Curse is, it managed to find them both.

In the first half of the Steelers season opener, Troy Polamalu sprained his MCL  when an opposing player fell onto his knee. He went on to only appear in 4 more games that year.

Larry Fitzgerald played the entire season and had a career-high 13 TDs, but missed the Cardinals postseason due to injured ribs.
