The Top 10 Quarterbacks in 2014

By on April 6, 2014

The Quarterback position is the most important position in all of sports and there are a limited number of elite players in the NFL. For years Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have been at the top of the class, but both of their careers are coming to an end and the next wave of elite QBs are already working on their craft to become the NFL’s best-of-the-best. Joe Flacco claims to be elite, but don’t worry, he’s not on this list.

10. Robert Griffin III Any attack on Robert Griffin’s game must be directed towards last season. He was very good in year one, with over 4,000 total yards, 27 total touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions. While he had trouble with fumbling in 2013, not all of those can be accredited towards him, as the Center-Quarterback exchange was a slight problem in 2012. Also, the most amazing number in 2012, was his 65.6% completion percentage. He did all of this with guys like Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan as his best targets. Last year, he wasn’t as bad as most people thought either: RG3 accounted for 3,700 yards, with 16 passing touchdowns. The problem was that it was harder for them to score because of RG3’s inability to run the football effectively. He had 7 rushing touchdowns in 2012 and 0 in 2013. If he had duplicated his run touchdowns stat in 2013, he would have had only 300 less total yards, and 4 less touchdowns in 2013, while playing two less games. The only place he took a hit was his completion percentage, which went down to 60, still pretty decent. Robert Griffin III still throws with excellent velocity, throws the deep ball with perfection, and can still hit receivers in stride. Last years’ struggles were a result of him being uncomfortable and playing with limited mobility. When his mobility was limited, he had to play as more of a pocket passer which limited his ability to move around in the backfield and it resulted in poor, inconsistent mechanics. When he returns this season, the knee will be fully back to health and he will be able to move around and play as more of a mobile quarterback. When his mobility returns, his mechanics will return and the lethal threat known as RG3 should too. Lastly, the addition of offensive minded Head Coach, Jay Gruden should help ignite the offense. Jay Gruden is a great offensive mind who will be able to get the most out of his quarterback. Gruden will find ways to move around newly acquired playmaker DeSean Jackson, get him past corners, and beating safeties deep. Griffin finally has a number one receiver, which can only help.
