2014 NFL Mock Draft 3.4 (Three Rounds)
#17
Alabama FS HaHa Clinton-Dix - This would be two safeties in as many years selected in the first round for the Ravens, but it is their biggest need after failing to bring in Jairus Byrd or Louis Delmas to pair with Matt Elam. Clinton-Dix and Elam could become one of the best safety duos in the league for years to come on a defense that was arguably better in 2013 than in their Super Bowl season.
#18 New York Jets
LSU WR Odell Beckham Jr. - The Jets are putting a lot of focus on their offense this season after finally realizing Rex Ryan’s defense can’t win every game for you. Erick Decker was an expensive addition for a #2 WR, but they need another threat on the other side to draw attention. Odell Beckham Jr. has huge upside and could be one of the best WRs to come out of LSU since Dwayne Bowe. He plays with a physicality that would fit the power run game the Jets need to feature to get back to their winning formula. If the Jets feel they already have a raw, undeveloped WR in Stephen Hill, they could select another WR such as USC’s Marqise Lee.
#19
UVA T Morgan Moses - After the Incognito-Martin scandal last year, the Dolphins have begun rebuilding their offensive line with the signing of the Chiefs LT Branden Albert. Ryan Tannehill has progressed slowly, but looks ready to take another step in his third season as a starter and keeping him upright and establishing a running game is going to be crucial in that development.
#20
UCLA OLB Anthony Barr - The Cardinals are building a great defense in Arizona and adding another pass rusher to keep John Abraham healthy and fresh will go a long way. Their 2013 first round pick Jonathan Cooper returning from injury is a bonus to the offensive line that allows them to focus more on the defense. Dee Ford could be an alternative choice as a pass rush specialist.
#21
Louisville FS Calvin Pryor - The Packers missed out on the top free agent safeties, but they get one of the top safety prospects falling into their lap. After spending money for Julius Peppers, they are in a position to take the best player available. Calvin Pryor would provide a huge upgrade over departed M.D. Jennings.
#22
Michigan State CB Darqueze Dennard - The Eagles defense ranked dead-last against the pass in 2013 and cornerback is their biggest need after re-signing Nate Allen and signing Malcolm Jenkins from the Saints. Darqueze Dennard was the Jim Thorpe Award winner and could push starters Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher. Nolan Carroll was a bargain signing and provides flexibility to address other needs if they see necessary.
#23
UCLA G Xavier Su’a-Filo - Many mock drafts have them linked to drafting a WR at #23, including previous NFLRT mock drafts (WR Brandin Cooks), but Andy Reid doesn’t believe in using first round picks on receivers and greatly values the big guys on the offensive line. The Chiefs lost a large portion of their offensive line this offseason and should focus on addressing this hole created by free agency. Su’a-Filo will remind Andy Reid of past first round selection, Danny Watkins, but with greater upside.
#24
Auburn DE Dee Ford - The Bengals lost DE Michael Johnson to the Buccaneers via free agency, but the bigger loss was DC Mike Zimmer to the Vikings as their new Head Coach. Either way, they need to add more of a pass rush to relieve some of the pressure off that secondary and Dee Ford has quickly risen up draft boards after dominating at the Senior Bowl. He has similar potential to long time Colts pass rush specialist, Robert Mathis.
