2014 NFL Mock Draft 3.4 (Three Rounds)
#25
Notre Dame NT Louis Nix III - The Chargers defense allowed opposing offenses to move the ball at will in 2013, riding the arm of Philip Rivers into the playoffs. Nix was inconsistent at Notre Dame but with his 342-pound frame, he could develop into a disruptive player to clog the middle of their defense.
#26
USC WR Marqise Lee - The Browns selection of Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft was one of their best moves in over a decade. To keep defenses honest, adding another threat opposite of him could be crucial in the development of their young QB. Depending on the outcome of the draft to this point will dictate whether the Browns go WR at #26 and CB at #35, or vice versa.
#27
Ohio State CB Bradley Roby - The Saints signing top free agent Jairus Byrd came out of nowhere since they seemed to be limited by cap space. Adding more help to the secondary should be a high priority for Rob Ryan to focus on putting pressure on opposing QBs. With Dee Ford off the board, the Saints will hope for 2013 free agent Victor Butler to provide more of a pass rush as he returns from an injury that kept him out all season.
#28
Florida State WR Kelvin Benjamin - Benjamin would’ve been a perfect compliment to Steve Smith but, allegedly for salary cap reasons, the Panthers chose to move on from the fan favorite in the last year of his deal. The Panthers are forced to start over at WR with Brandon LaFell also leaving via free agency to the Patriots.
#29
Texas Tech TE Jace Amaro - Aaron Hernandez is in jail and Rob Gronkowski is made of glass. The Patriots love the two-TE offense but lack the personnel to run it efficiently. Jace Amaro is a huge target at 6’7″ and was the focal point of the offense at Texas Tech. Tom Brady needs more targets and this draft is deep at WR so the Patriots need to fill their need at TE early. If things don’t work out with Vince Wilfork, Ra’shede Hageman could be an option here.
#30
Penn State WR Allen Robinson - The 49ers have made multiple attempts to add a WR to their offense and Allen Robinson fits the mold for their power run game with a similar skill set to Anquan Boldin. Having 3 possession WRs might not be ideal (Boldin, Crabtree, Robinson), but this is a luxury pick more suited for life after Boldin. Cornerback is also a position the 49ers could address.
#31
Stanford G David Yankey - After being one of the busiest teams in free agency, the Broncos defense looks scary on paper. However, on offense they lost Guard Zane Beadles to the Jaguars via free agency and need to protect Peyton Manning in what could be his final act as an NFL QB. David Yankey is one of the top Guards available in the draft from one of the top college programs in the country and could be plugged in as a starter from day 1.
#32
Alabama T Cyrus Kouandijo - The Seahawks offensive line was their biggest question mark headed into 2013 and they held it together enough during the playoffs to win a Super Bowl. They are in a position to take a risk on a player with injury concerns whose play would warrant a much high selection.
