Fantasy Football Running Back Rankings

By on August 15, 2014

After the top five RBs, there is going to be a dropoff in production. You could shuffle the top-5 guys and be alright, but after them it becomes more difficult to project where/what order players should be picked.

#6 Marshawn Lynch

Buyer beware with Marshawn Lynch in 2014. After winning the Super Bowl and his lengthy holdout, it’s unlikely he is coming into this season in the best shape. The Seahawks are likely going to lessen his workload after their long season and feed backup Christine Michael the ball more to prevent Lynch from breaking down late in the season. In 2013, he averaged 4.7 YPC in the first half and only 3.4 YPC in the second half.

#7 Giovani Bernard

This may come as a surprise to some, but Giovani Bernard is going to be the Bengals #1 RB this season. Bernard is a playmaker and will be hard to take off the field for BenJarvus Green-Ellis or rookie Jeremy Hill. While they provide great depth, Green-Ellis and Hill will be called upon to spell Bernard and keep him fresh over the course of the season since neither possess the same home-run threat that Bernard does.

#8 DeMarco Murray

DeMarco Murray enters this contract season coming off his best season as a pro and he will be playing behind one of the top offensive lines in 2014. Murray has the skillset to be one of the top RBs in the league but has been fragile thus far in his career. The Cowboys brought in a new play caller, Scott Linehan, to ensure the running game was balanced and effective in 2014; Murray could be the beneficiary.

#9 Arian Foster

Arian Foster is doing everything he can to “be a good teammate” in 2014. Without Ben Tate, Foster becomes the only proven commodity the Texans have at RB and the focal point of the offense until a legitimate QB is found. Arian Foster is only a couple seasons removed from being an All-Pro RB and has to show new coach Bill O’Brien that can still be the lead back in Houston.

#10 Montee Ball

Montee Ball has the Broncos #1 RB job sitting in front of him, begging him to take it. Knowshon Moreno is gone, but Ronnie Hillman is in his rearview and he needs to take this job and run with it, literally. This year is setting up for Ball to be a top RB in the league in both rushing and receiving.
